MCS and RECC

New partnership betweenMCS and RECC announced

MCS and RECC announce a new partnership, as they combine forces in a bid to place standards and consumer protection at the heart of home-grown energy.

From 1st January 2020, MCS certificates raised for solar PV, battery storage or wind installations will now also include RECC membership and all associated benefits.

This simplified integration of consumer code membership with MCS certification aims to increase awareness for consumers and reduce costs for installers in a move to reposition consumer protection as a central element of certification.

MCS Certificates will offer a route to access the Smart Export Guarantee from January 2020 and are required by many lenders and insurance providers as evidence of compliant installations.”

THE SCHEME

The aim of the Renewable Energy Consumer Code (RECC) is to ensure that consumers wishing to install small micro generation products to their homes are confident in the knowledge that the chosen member, have the necessary certification and service standards

THE CONSUMER CODE

As members of the Renewable Energy Consumer Code (RECC), the member agrees to abide by the Consumer Code. It covers all the factors that contribute to a high standard of consumer service, before, during and after a contract is agreed.

The Code is backed by the Trading Standards Institute (TSI) as part of a self-regulation initiative, the Consumer Codes Approval Scheme.

Consumer Codes Approval Scheme

The Consumer Codes Approval Scheme (CCAS) aims to improve customer service standards by:

  • the approval and promotion of codes of practice through code sponsors, approved by the Chartered Trading Standards institute (CTSI)
  • protecting consumers with higher levels of customer service
  • allowing businesses to display the codes logo to reassure consumers

Consumers can look out for the CTSI approved code logo when searching for a business. They can be confident that any approved business they choose has a proven commitment to honest business and higher customer standards.

The Scheme exists to:
promote and protect the success of a modern vibrant economy, to safeguard the health, safety and wellbeing of citizens by enhancing the professionalism of its members.

"MCS will offer a route to access the Smart Export Guarantee from January 2020 and are required by many lenders and insurance providers as evidence of compliant installations."

APPROVED INSTALLER

MCS Installer Standards

Installer certification includes assessing the supply, design, installation, set-to-work, and commissioning of renewable microgeneration technologies. Similar to the Gas Safe Register, the MCS gives installers a mark of quality and demonstrates to the consumer that the installation will be completed to the highest quality every time.

Important Consumer Information

As the consumer, it is important that any small-scale generation technology is specified, installed and maintained correctly.

You need accurate information and enough time to understand what you are purchasing.

Its important that we give you clear expectations, and that the extent the technology(ies) we provide are capable of meeting those expectations. In particular we need to be clear about the likely performance of the system, and what the products are likely to deliver and return for you financially.

MCS (Micro Generation Scheme)

MCS is short for Micro Generation Scheme and demonstrates the quality of products and the competence of installers within the renewable energy technology sector.
In this rapidly growing industry, installers and products that carry the MCS mark are likely to be seen as the only preferred option in the market place.

PRODUCT STANDARDS

All mandatory specified products supplied and installed by Ecocute are MCS approved, MCS products have to satisfy the rigorous established European and International standards, such as TUV & CE certification

In addition to laboratory testing, the product manufacturers must also undertake regular factory production control audits to show that they have the management systems in place to support quality production practices.

This also demonstrates that the products at the end of the production line are of the same quality as those that are tested, It is mandatory for Solar Panels and Solar Mounting Equipment to be MCS approved to qualify for MCS certification, Products that are NOT certified will NOT be able to qualify for any future incentives such as the SEG (Smart Export Guarantee)
